Laser Scanning is used to highly define features quickly, efficiently and in a remote manner. Features which the Laser Scanner can be used to Survey, include Buildings, Mining Infrastructure, Opencut Pits, Areas of Bulk Earthworks, Stockpiles and General Terrain objects.
By using the Laser Scanner, Terrain Models can be captured remotely without the need for a Surveyor to Manually walk Crests, Toes and Changes of Grade. Not only does this provide great safety benefits but also allows production to continue without downtime associated with pit surveys.
Areas of interest are captured by the Laser Scanner and represented by what is called a Point Cloud.
Below are Examples of Point Cloud Data

German Creek Pit W, Strip 6, West.

German Creek CHP.
Points Clouds are made up of millions and millions of individual points that highly define the objects within the scan. No line work is associated with point cloud data. Data sets are very large usually in the vicinity of 50-60Mb plus.
Point cloud data sets are usually too large for direct import into most mining and civil engineering packages.
To counter this problem our firm models the scan data using point cloud specific software, extracting the necessary line work and points which best define the scan model and thus reduce the data set to a manageable size for our clients.

Machine Guidance Technology
TR Baillie Consulting Surveyors first utilised Machine Guidance Technology in 2004/2005 during the construction phase of the Rolleston Coal Mine. Carlson Grade was used to control the bulk earthworks aspect of the project in conjunction with contemporary field methods.
From there, TR Baillie Consulting Surveyors have continued their involvement with Machine Guidance through its consistent hire service. Software is continually upgraded and components checked to ensure our customers have the latest technology at their disposal.
Past applications where our Machine Control units have been used include, mining, rehabilitation, haul road construction and general bulk earthworks. |
